Dayton-based Premier Health is launching a community paramedicine program with the Dayton Fire Department to provide in-home care to select patients, Dayton Daily News reports.
The program, which is funded through Premier Health and Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation — Dayton, will send teams comprised of a paramedic, emergency medical technician and a social worker to visit patients in their homes. The care group will provide patients with medical care, health assessments and home safety checks.
The community paramedicine team will accommodate up to 25 patients at a time and will also work with various agencies, such as Meals on Wheels or prescription delivery, to coordinate additional services a patient may need.
"[This] collaboration between Premier Health and Dayton Fire should positively affect the health of patients and help to reduce readmissions," said Randy Marriott, MD, Premier Health EMS center's medical director and EMS medical director for the Dayton Fire Department, according to Dayton Daily News. Dr. Marriott will oversee the paramedicine program.
