New York City will boost the price of a cigarette pack to $13, the highest in the country, next year, according to Fox 5 News.
The move to increase the minimum price per pack is a part of legislation aimed at decreasing the number of smokers in the city by 6 percent by 2020.
The anti-smoking legislation, signed into law by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, also includes tighter restrictions on e-cigarettes, a 10 percent tax on tobacco products and reduces the number of stores that can sell tobacco products.
The legislation will take effect in June 2018.
