Illinois hospital temporarily closes due to flooding

Eldorado, Ill.-based Ferrell Hospital has stopped accepting patients, including in the emergency department, after significant flooding May 8.

Some patients were transported to local facilities or their respective homes, according to a May 9 hospital statement shared with Becker's. Ferrell is working with the state Department of Public Health to develop a timeline for reopening.

Currently, restoration crews are on site working to sanitize the facility.

"Ferrell Hospital extends our deepest gratitude to the remarkable team at Slay's Restoration in Carmi, Illinois, the brave members of the Eldorado Fire Department, the city of Eldorado, our loyal Ferrell Hospital staff, along with our dedicated maintenance team, and all others who have generously lent their support during our flood restoration efforts," the hospital statement said. "Your unwavering dedication and tireless efforts have played a pivotal role in swiftly removing water from our hospital so we can soon resume critical patient care services and ensure the safety and well-being of our community."
