New York City-based Hearst Health, a division of Hearst, and Philadelphia-based Jefferson College of Population Health of Thomas Jefferson University chose three finalists for the 2017 Hearst Health Prize.
The prize is a $100,000 award recognizing an organization's or individual's outstanding achievement in managing or improving health in the United States.
The finalists are:
• American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for their "Target: Stroke" program, a national initiative aimed at allowing more eligible stroke patients to receive tissue plasminogen activator within the specified time frame.
• California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative, based at Stanford (Calif.) University, has through a series of quality improvement projects contributed to a significant decline in maternal mortality in California.
• Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare for creating a mental health integration program that combines mental health screening and treatment with primary care and select specialty practices.
The finalists will present their programs at a special poster session at the 17th annual Population Health Colloquium in Philadelphia on March 27, 2017. Hearst Health and Jefferson College of Population Health will announce a winner the next day.
"One of our primary goals for the Hearst Health Prize is to generate widespread awareness for extraordinary accomplishments in the field of population health and advance the peer-reviewed body of work," Gregory Dorn, MD, president of Hearst Health, said in a statement.
