The emergency department at Franciscan Health Crown Point (Ind.) has received the state's first American College of Emergency Physicians' Pain and Addiction Care in the emergency department gold-level accreditation.
Here are five things to know:
1. The hospital ED, part of Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciasan Health, is also one of 13 in the nation to receive the gold-level PACED accreditation, which is the highest level possible, according to an Oct. 7 news release shared with Becker's.
2. Gold-level PACED accreditation recognizes EDs that feature a comprehensive program for patients that offers pain or addiction optimal care "through advanced management-specific treatment, protocols, training and resources."
3. The accreditation will remain in place at Franciscan Health Crown Point's ED for three years, the release said.
4. Policies and procedures that affect pain and addiction care were part of the application requirements for the accreditation. Other application requirements included the emergency department's accountability for the amount of opioid pain medications provided to patients and how the ED relied on other pain and addiction treatment methods.
5. "We are honored and privileged to receive this accreditation as it took a lot of hard work and collaboration with our multidisciplinary team in order to achieve," Erin DiMichele, BSN, RN, nursing director of critical care services at Franciscan Health Crown Point, said in the release. "This accreditation provides a mechanism to ensure we are maintaining high quality care and incorporating innovations to the standard of care for our patients."
