Three New Jersey hospitals — Morristown-based Atlantic Health System, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway (N.J.) and Elizabeth-based Trinitas Regional Medical Center — are partnering with local law enforcement to supply Narcan to all police departments in Union County, according to NJ.com.
All three hospitals signed memorandums of understanding with the Union County prosecutor's office to provide the drug, which is used to treat opioid overdose, to police for free.
According to the agreement, each hospital will provide quarterly supplies of the drug and fill requests from police departments looking to replenish their stock.
"This is a testament to the fact that when it comes to the fight against prescription drug and opioid abuse, we're all in this together," said acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park, in a statement to NJ.com. "We greatly appreciate our partnership with Atlantic Health, Robert Wood Johnson, and Trinitas."
