A nearly two-fold variation exists in breast cancer rates across the nation's 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas, according to a study from Doximity.
For the study, researchers examined the largest 50 U.S. metropolitan statistical areas based on the number of women older than 40 according to 2010 Census data.
The study found the number of women age 40-75 with breast cancer in 2018 ranged from 227 to 337.5 across metro areas (per 100,000 people).
The 10 metro areas with the highest breast cancer rates in women were:
1. Virginia Beach, Va.
2. Buffalo, N.Y.
3. Rochester, N.Y.
4. Hartford, Conn.
5. Boston
6. New Orleans
7. Milwaukee
8. Pittsburgh
9. Baltimore
10. Charlotte, N.C.
The 10 metro areas with the lowest breast cancer rates in women were:
1. Las Vegas
2. Tucson, Ariz.
3. Riverside, Calif.
4. San Antonio, Texas
5. Houston
6. Orlando, Fla.
7. Miami
8. Los Angeles
9. Memphis, Tenn.
10. North Port, Fla.
