Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine has opened the first cardiometabolic clinic in West Virginia to provide more streamlined care for patients with heart disease and metabolic conditions.
The clinic represents a collaborative effort between the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and the WVU Department of Medicine to provide cardiology, endocrinology and weight-management services "in a one-stop shop," according to an Oct. 4 news release from WVU Medicine.
Patients with cardiac disease, pre-diabetes, diabetes or obesity can receive care at the clinic from providers across specialties at one location.
"The novel anti-diabetic medications that have strong cardiovascular outcome data now, more than ever, highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to care," Smita Kumar, MD, endocrinologist at WVU Medicine said.
GLP-1s have been found to reduce mortality and complications from cardiovascular events, according to a recent study.
