NC heart center receives $30M for heart failure research

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest School of Medicine received a $30 million, five-year federal grant to study cardiac rehabilitation for patients with heart failure, the Winston-Salem Journal reported Oct. 10.

Researchers will conduct a phase 3 trial on a physical rehabilitation intervention to see whether it reduces rehospitalizations and mortality for older patients hospitalized for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

The rehabilitation program is individually tailored and involves strength, endurance, balance and mobility training exercises.
