Beaumont, Texas-based Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital will begin offering a new test aimed at detecting heart attacks earlier in women, The Beaumont Enterprise reported March 16.
The new test uses patients' blood to determine levels of a protein present with heart damage and can help physicians learn if a patient is having a heart attack or has other heart abnormalities.
Timothy Colgan, MD, an interventional cardiologist at the Christus Southeast Texas Cardiology Center in Beaumont, told The Beaumont Enterprise the test has been successful abroad and in tests in research hospitals across the nation.
