80 heart centers opening, expanding in 2024

From new cardiac rehabilitation units to $60 million expansion projects, here are 80 cardiology program updates from 2024:

  1. Woodbridge, Va.-based Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center launched the Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab program.

  2. Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine opened the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute at Ranson, W.Va.-based Jefferson Medical Center.

  3. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Nemours Children's Health opened a new cardiac specialty care clinic at Lewes, Del.-based Beebe Healthcare's primary care facility in Selbyville, Del.

  4. University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Ionia hospital opened a new cardiac rehabilitation clinic.

  5. Leavenworth, Kan.-based Saint John Hospital opened a new cardiac care unit.

  6. West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health opened a new cardiac catheterization laboratory at its Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway. 

  7. Irving, Texas-based Christus Health opened a new, permanent location for the Heart and Vascular Institute-Sulphur Springs in the Christus Trinity Clinic Medical Plaza building on the Christus Mother Frances Hospital-Sulphur Springs campus.

  8. Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy opened a fluid management program at Mercy Heart and Vascular in Washington, Mo., to reduce hospital admissions for heart failure patients.

  9. Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine opened a new cardiovascular clinic at its Princeton (W.Va.) Community Hospital.

  10. Renton, Wash.-based Providence Heart Institute established the new Howard "H" White Center for Cardiac Amyloidosis.

  11. Florence, S.C.-based McLeod Regional Medical Center opened a remodeled cardiovascular ICU.

  12. Morehead City, N.C.-based Carteret Health Care launched a new transitional clinic for cardiology patients.

  13. Corpus Christi (Texas) Medical Center opened a new cardiac rehabilitation center.

  14. Dallas-based Medical City Heart Hospital re-began a $60 million construction project to expand the facility's specialized cardiovascular service line.

  15. ProMedica Monroe (Mich.) Regional Hospital opened a new cardiac catheterization/vascular lab.

  16. The Alabama State Health Planning and Development Agency in Montgomery issued a certificate of need for an $18.6 million cardiology ASC.

  17. West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health will open a new outpatient heart center.

  18. Buffalo, N.Y.-based Mercy Hospital began a $13 million project to replace four of its existing cardiac catheterization labs.

  19. Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Health is establishing a new ambulatory heart and vascular center near its Woodbridge hospital.

  20. Bon Secours filed a development plan for a new cardiology ASC in Henrico, Va.

  21. Nashua, N.H.-based St. Joseph Hospital opened a new cardiology practice in Nashua, N.H.

  22. Escanaba, Mich.-based OSF St. Francis Hospital opened a cardiac catheterization lab in partnership with Bellin Health's cardiovascular team.

  23. A $7.2 million vascular ASC is coming to Memphis, Tenn.

  24. New York City-based Maimonides Health opened its cardiac services and catheterization lab at Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital.

  25. Children's Mercy Kansas City (Mo.), as a part of its pediatric partnership with Mercy Springfield Communities, acquired Pediatrix Cardiology of Springfield (Mo.).

  26. Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center opened the Center for Advanced Heart Failure & Cardiomyopathy Care.

  27. New York City-based Maimonides Medical Center opened its Heart and Vascular Institute's advanced cardiac suite.

  28. New York City-based NYU Langone Health acquired Florida Cardiology Group and renamed it NYU Langone Cardiology Associates-Atlantis/Lake Worth.

  29. Sanford (N.C.) Health expanded its Heart and Vascular Center, adding a third cath lab and expanded workstations.

  30. Reno, Nev.-based Renown Health is opening the state's first and only comprehensive extracorporeal membrane oxygenation program.

  31. Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health will consolidate all of its cardiac and vascular services under a new institute, established through a "transformational" gift.

  32. Durham, N.C.-based Duke Health opened an AI testing lab to determine which products are the most effective for heart care.

  33. Humble, Texas-based Modern Heart and Vascular Institute broke ground on a 100,000-square-foot facility in Humble.

  34. Loma Linda (Calif.) University Health opened the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic at the International Heart Institute.

  37. Rapid City, S.D.-based Black Hills Surgical Hospital opened a new cardiovascular health center.

  38. Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health opened a new, expanded heart and vascular center in Bemidji, Minn.

  39. Davie-based HCA Florida University Hospital opened a new electrophysiology lab and is the first in the country to use new technology in the lab.

  40. Nancy Hua, DO, opened a direct heart-care cardiology practice Billings, Mont.

  41. Sulphur Springs, Texas-based Christus Health will expand its services and open a new cardiology location.

  42. Portland-based MaineHealth unveiled its $378 million addition to the Maine Medical Center.

  43. Evanston, Ill.-based Endeavor Health opened its Cardiovascular Institute at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, Ill.

  49. WVU Medicine is expanding its advanced cardiac services with the launch of an open-heart surgery program at its Thomas Hospitals in South Charleston, W.Va.

  50. AdventHealth Medical Group is set to open a cardiology practice in Dalton, Ga.

  51. Englewood (N.J.) Health and New York City-based ColumbiaDoctors are collaborating to provide consultations to advanced heart failure patients hospitalized at Englewood Hospital.

  59. Findley, Ohio-based Blanchard Valley Health System is cutting its open-heart surgery program and will instead transfer patients to other systems as needed.

  61. Neptune City, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center is investing $45 million to expand its cardiovascular suite.

  71. Ronnie Garcia, MD, reopened his cardiology practice, Baptist Medical Network-Cardiology-Seguin (Texas), formerly Mission Cardiovascular Consultants, in a new, larger location.

  72. First Coast Cardiovascular Institute partnered with CardioHealth, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based practice specializing in hypertension, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation and valvular heart disease.

  73. AdventHealth Medical Group is opening a cardiology clinic location in Trion, Ga.
