Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) General Hospital will begin construction on its $40 million vertical expansion within the next month, Times Leader reports.
The addition will include three floors and 34 critical care beds. Approximately 200 rooms will be transitioned from semi-private rooms to private rooms. A fifth floor area will store equipment and machinery.
The hospital will most likely hire additional staff, according to the report.
Wilkes-Barre's parent company, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, will fund the project. Completion is set for the end of 2017.
