UPMC to build 636-bed tower

Pittsburgh-based UPMC will build a new 17-story, 636-bed tower on the former Children's Hospital site.

The project will take up almost 900,000 square feet and will serve patients in the ICU as well as other patients, according to the Oakland Planning and Development Corporation.

Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2022 and the tower is expected to open in fall 2026.
