Louisville, Ky.-based UofL Health has opened its $78 million UofL Health-South Hospital in Shepherdsville, Ky.
The acute care hospital comprises 40 inpatient beds, including a 10-bed intensive care unit, and room for 20 more beds. It also provides enhanced heart care services, expanded emergency capabilities, expanded cardiopulmonary services, a pharmacy, increased surgical suites for inpatient and outpatient procedures, and a laboratory and sterile processing area, according to a March 18 UofL Health news release shared with Becker's.
The project turned UofL Health's existing medical center into the new hospital, which tripled the size of the health system's area presence and added over 100,000 square feet and two additional floors.
More than 150 new employees, including nursing and ancillary positions, were hired at the hospital.
A fully integrated regional academic health system, UofL Health is affiliated with the University of Louisville School of Medicine and features nine hospitals, four medical centers, a cancer center, an eye institute, and around 200 physician practice locations. It has 13,000 employees, including more than 1,000 providers, according to the release.
