University of Central Florida seeks partner for teaching hospital

The University of Central Florida in Orlando plans to build a teaching hospital, and it is seeking a healthcare institution partner to help finance the project, according to an Orlando Business Journal report.

A teaching hospital would be built in Orlando, adjacent to the UCF College of Medicine.

UCF President John Hitt said in a prepared statement provided to the Orlando Business Journal that is the right time to build such a facility.

"A UCF teaching hospital is needed to fulfill our commitment to Central Florida — and to all of the citizens of this state — to build a healthier community, train more doctors and power economic growth through research," he said.

UCF Academic Health is expected to lead the university's search for a local, state or national healthcare institution partner, according to the report. The new nonprofit is also slated to lead the process to obtain a certificate of need to build the hospital from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.
