Houston-based Texas Children's is set to open up its new Austin, Texas hospital in February 2024, the Austin Business Journal reported Dec. 6.
The health system broke ground on the $485 million project in 2021. While the 385,000-square-foot campus will serve patients when it opens, more than a third of the hospital's space will be empty to accommodate for growth. When it opens, the hospital will have 52 beds and the capacity to expand to 100 beds.
"We built what we know we need on day one," Russ Williams, the hospital's senior vice president, told the Journal. "But, we want to be able to do day one through year five without having to do another major construction project."
