The proposed Prince George's County Regional Medical Center in Largo, Md., is one step closer to fruition, reports The Washington Post.
The project, planned by Cheverly, Md.- based Dimensions Healthcare System and the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, was recently recommended for approval by Maryland Health Care Commissioner Robert E. Moffit, PhD.
In recommending the project for approval, he said it is crucial to providing the "strong and revitalized healthcare system" Prince George's County residents "need and deserve," according to the report.
Dr. Moffit's recommendation comes after he asked Dimensions and UMMS to reduce the size, cost and scope of the hospital, according to the report. The modifications brought the project price down by nearly $100 million, the report states. The project, which aims to replace the aging facility in Cheverly, is now expected to cost $543 million.
The entire Maryland Health Care Commission will meet Oct. 20 to hear oral arguments and consider Dr. Moffit's recommendation.
