A local planning board unanimously rejected Greenwich (Conn.) Hospital's plan to build a three-story cancer center in Greenwich, according to the Greenwich Times.
The hospital proposed building the 55,000-square-foot cancer center on eight parcels near its campus. Greenwich Hospital argued that building the center would give local cancer patients access to care closer to home instead of traveling to Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health Center.
Residents in the neighborhood opposed the cancer care facility, arguing it would create traffic problems, compromise neighborhood safety and affect the character of the neighborhood.
In the decision to reject the proposal, members of the Planning and Zoning Commission cited concerns about traffic and suggested the center should be built elsewhere.
