Pittsburgh-based St. Clair Hospital unveiled plans to build a six-story outpatient center after a 130 percent increase in outpatient volumes since 2006, the hospital said July 24.
The $142 million expansion will be connected to St. Clair Hospital's 329-bed main campus. Slated to open in fall 2020, the 280,000-square-foot outpatient center will house 51 pre- and post-surgical rooms; a 10-bed outpatient operating room; two procedure rooms; diagnostic and therapeutic services; and an infusion center.
St. Clair will fund the project through philanthropy, government grants, tax-exempt bonds and hospital resources. The hospital will also hire 150 healthcare workers to run the outpatient tower.
The expansion is St. Clair's largest in 40 years, with groundbreaking slated for later this year.
John T. Sullivan, MD, senior vice president and CMO at St. Clair Hospital, said in a news release: "Advancements in medical science have dramatically changed how medical care will be delivered in the future, and we are addressing that evolution by creating a facility in which next generation treatments can be provided in a convenient, easy-to-access, patient-focused setting. The new outpatient center will prove to be a transformative experience for patients by consolidating high-quality clinical and support services under one roof."
