Piedmont, Encompass expand joint venture

Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare has expanded its joint venture with Encompass Health to include Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, in Augusta, Ga.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Encompass Health, the largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the country, acquired the 70-bed facility in 2013.

Piedmont and Encompass Health's existing joint venture includes Rehabilitation Hospital of Newnan (Ga.); Rehabilitation Hospital of Henry (Ga.); Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Phenix City, Ala.; Rehabilitation Hospital of Columbus (Ga.); and Rehabilitation Hospital of Atlanta. Piedmont and Encompass Health also plan to build hospitals in Athens and Loganville, Ga.

"As a destination for healthcare, Piedmont Augusta treats patients from across Georgia," Lily Henson, MD, CEO of Piedmont's Augusta clinical hub, said in a July 8 news release. "By adding Walton Rehabilitation Hospital to our system, it is now easier for us to provide the high-quality, patient-centered care and seamlessly integrated experience for which we are known."
