Penn State Health in Hershey, Pa., has finished construction on its new acute care facility.
Lancaster (Pa.) Medical Center is expected to open Oct. 3 and is 341,000 square feet, according to the health system's website. It has six stories and 132 private patient beds in addition to 10 observation beds.
The new hospital is expected to hire roughly 700 healthcare employees and is a part of Penn State Health's plan to ensure communities are within 10 minutes of primary care, 20 minutes of specialty care and 30 minutes of an acute care facility.
Inpatient services include a cardiac catheterization lab, cardiac surgery, a general surgical unit, a labor and delivery unit, medical/surgical care, and a hybrid operating room. Emergency care, imaging services and physician offices will be part of outpatient care.
