After a small amount of mercury was found at Farmington-based UConn Health Center, part of the campus was closed off Wednesday night.
According to WFSB, "small drops" of mercury were found at a loading dock area of the health center's administrative services building. That area, which is a low-traffic area of the health center that is not involved in patient care, is temporarily closed.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are investigating the leak, and an experienced hazardous material team came in to clean the area.
A spokeswoman from UConn told WFSB that the mercury could be from a broken thermometer or a piece of machinery.
