In the second phase of a multiyear renovation project, Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Children's Hospital has opened a new medical and surgical center, according to WDRB.
The $12 million surgical center on the hospital's sixth floor has 24 beds for children with respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological diseases.
"But it's much more than just hospital beds," said Emmett Ramser, chief administrative officer for Norton Healthcare. "We've designed this unit to include family-oriented amenities so that patients can focus on healing."
The $78 million renovation's first phase was a restaurant and conference center on the hospital's first floor. Its third phase will be the opening of the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac ICU on the fourth floor later this year, and the final phase will be a new newborn intensive care unit and critical care center.
