Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem plans to spend $50 million to $60 million to open an additional 50 immediate care centers, according to the Chicago Tribune.
NorthShore plans to open 20 new immediate care centers this year and an additional 30 centers within the next two years.
The health system currently operates six immediate care sites, which were established about three years ago and have experienced an increase in patient volume each year.
NorthShore University HealthSystem President and CEO J.P. Gallagher said the immediate care centers serve as a "front door" to help draw patients into the system. He said 20 percent of patients who visit an immediate care center are new to NorthShore, according to the report.
