New York hospital begins construction on project tripling size of ER

Rochester, N.Y.-based Strong Memorial Hospital has begun construction on a project that will nearly triple the size of its emergency department with the addition of a nine-story tower, rochesterfirst.com reported Jan. 10.

The project is the biggest in the history of the University of Rochester Medical Center and is being partly funded through $1 million in federal funds. Three stories of the new tower will be dedicated to cardiovascular care, and the expansion will add 100 inpatient beds to the hospital.

Hospital officials project the expansion to be completed by 2027. Current patients will not be affected by the construction.
