New Jersey health system endowment receives its largest gift ever

The Cooper Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Camden, N.J.-based Cooper University Health Care, received a $5 million gift from the Bernard and Shirley Brown Charitable Foundation and the Brown Foundation, the largest gift in the system's history.

The gift will create the Edward D. Viner, MD, Chief of Medicine Endowment at Cooper University Health Care. Dr. Viner served as chief of medicine at Cooper from 1987 to 2006, according to a May 1 Cooper news release.

The fund will support the compensation and retention of a physician in the endowed position.
