Washington, D.C.-based Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is advocating to remove McDonald's from John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, according to a report from local ABC affiliate WFAA.
JPS Hospital has a full McDonald's franchise operating out of its main campus. The contract is set to expire Aug. 16. JPS and the franchise owner are discussing a one-year contract extension, according to the report.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine campaign is part of a national push by the group to track fast-food restaurants at hospitals. The group believes hosting a McDonald's sends the wrong message to patients.
In a statement to WFAA, the hospital said the franchise offers healthy options unavailable at other McDonald's locations, and its cafeteria and on-site food truck offer additional food options.
