Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic is set to start construction on a new cancer facility after pledging an investment of $26 million in the former Dickinson County Healthcare System, the Daily Press said June 5.
Iron Mountain, Mich.-based DCHS began its affiliation with the Marshfield system last summer and became known as Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.
The cancer center was originally budgeted $10.6 million, but "construction costs have gone up substantially since the project was first envisioned," MMC-D President Amanda Shelast said. The facility is now set to have a capacity of 8,000 square feet, and an additional 2,000 square feet of an existing facility will be renovated according to the report.
Marshfield Clinic is in the process of finding approximately $185 million of savings after working with consultants. The 11-hospital system reported a $32.6 million operating loss in the first quarter of this year.
