The University of Kansas Hospital raised its $10 million fundraising match in response to philanthropist Annette Bloch's 2014 $10 million donation, Wyandotte Daily Online reported.
The combined $20 million will help fund the hospital's proposed $350 million Cambridge North Tower, projected to open 2017 with additional floors opening in 2018. The tower will house 92 beds and 12 operating rooms.
KU Hospital met Mrs. Bloch's $10 million donation days prior to the June 30 deadline. Her contribution will specifically fund cancer services in the tower.
"This project is vital to expanding access to cancer services in surgical oncology, as well cancer and other services in neurosciences and ear, nose and throat. Demand in these areas is growing at a rapid rate and the hospital needs the facilities and technology to meet the needs of these patients," Mrs. Bloch told Wyandotte Daily Online.
KU Hospital hopes to gain $100 million for the tower from philanthropists alone.
Mrs. Bloch previously donated $20 million in 2008 to expand KU's cancer services.
