Intermountain to build estimated $1B Las Vegas freestanding children's hospital

Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health has shared plans for a freestanding children's hospital in Las Vegas that is estimated to cost $1 billion, according to a report from consulting firm Tripp Umbach.

The evaluation determined the cost based on a standalone 150-bed children's hospital in Southern Nevada with clinics, an emergency department and medical offices. It suggested that the facility would take up to five years for planning and development.

The report also predicted that Southern Nevada could support a 250-bed children's hospital by 2040.

"This is the first step toward our partnership with our community to bring this long-needed, stand-alone children’s hospital to Las Vegas," Mitch Cloward, president of Intermountain Health's Desert Region, said in an Oct. 22 news release.

Design for the hospital, clinical activities and workforce planning including sustainable recruitment have kicked off, with more details coming as the project develops further, according to the release.

Intermountain comprises more than 65 clinics across Southern Nevada.
