Intermountain launches 'transformation center'

Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare opened a 12,000-square-foot "transformation center" on Intermountain Medical Center's campus in Murray, Utah.

The Kem C. Gardner Intermountain Transformation Center will house programs to improve care quality while reducing costs for the health system. The center will primarily focus on innovation, leadership development and partnerships with global healthcare and health IT leaders. The center has already partnered with CHIME Innovation, the innovation arm of College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

At the center, Intermountain scientists and physicians will also work to develop best practices for high-quality medical care, collaborating on more than 1,500 research studies across more than 20 clinical areas.

The center is named after Kem C. Gardner, who donated $20 million to construct the facility. Mr. Gardner has served on various Intermountain boards for more than 30 years, currently chairing the Intermountain Foundation Board.

"I'm making this gift because Intermountain Healthcare has expertise of great importance to the world," Mr. Gardner said. "The programs housed in the transformation center will do so much to improve the health and care available to people in Utah and around the world.”
