HCA Healthcare opened its new $9.7 million freestanding emergency department Oct. 18 in Davenport, Fla., called ChampionsGate Emergency, Orlando Business Journal reported.
The 11,000-square-foot ED provides care 24/7 and has 11 private patient care rooms, a cardiopulmonary resuscitation room, and laboratory and imaging services. The imaging services include a CT scanner, ultrasound and X-ray.
It's affiliated with HCA Healthcare's Kissimmee, Fla.-based Poinciana Medical Center and is HCA's fifth freestanding ED in the Orlando area. The facility employs about 30 healthcare professionals.
"As our community grows, so do the health care needs of our residents, and care closer to home means everything in an emergency," Chris Cosby, CEO of Poinciana Medical Center, said in a prepared statement.
Freestanding EDs have increased recently in Florida. In 2021, there are 93 freestanding EDs in Florida, compared to 23 in 2016, according to the article.
