Port Charlotte, Fla.-based Fawcett Hospital, part of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, is nearing completion of repairs from Hurricane Ian as the hospital works on a $60 million expansion project that it had started before the hurricane, NBC-2 reported Jan. 18.
The hospital reopened its third and fourth floors last week and is nearing completion of all repairs. The expansion project that will add new operating rooms, 12 intensive care unit beds and a new waiting room was delayed by six weeks because of storm damage.
"We took it all the way down to the concrete and the studs to make sure that we have a safe environment for our caregivers and patients. We're in Florida, so we're very conscientious about mold and air quality in the building," Fawcett CEO Michael Ehrat told NBC-2. "By the end of January, we'll have all our units and floors open again. So we are 75 percent to 85 percent open right now and able to take care of the patients that come to us through our emergency room and into our facility."
