Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based HCA East Florida, a Hospital Corporation of America subsidiary, will invest $650 million in its Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie County facilities.
Improvements and expansions will take place over the next three years.
Here are eight planned investments and expansions:
1. HCA East Florida's largest investment will be the construction of a $219 million hospital on the Nova Southeastern University campus in Davie, Fla., slated to begin this year.
2. Atlantis, Fla.-based JFK Medical Center, a 472-bed facility, will gain $108 million to construct a three-story bed tower, expand its emergency department, finish patient unit renovations and upgrade its parking facilities.
3. Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami, a 417-bed facility, will receive $90 million to build a parking garage and a four-story tower to house additional operating rooms, ICU beds and pediatric beds.
4. Margate, Fla.-based Northwest Medical Center, a 228-bed facility, will get $66 million to build two floors to increase patient beds and ICU capacity. It will also add a six-level 322-space parking garage.
5. Aventura (Fla.) Hospital & Medical Center, a 407-bed facility, will gain $61 million to construct a patient tower, a parking garage and expand its emergency department.
6. Plantation, Fla.-based Westside Regiona lMedical Center, a 224-bed facility, will get $56 million to expand its patient beds and provide private rooms.
7. Miami-based Mercy Hospital, a 488-bed facility, will receive $26 million to improve patient rooms and additional facility remodeling and upgrading.
8. Two freestanding emergency rooms will be constructed in Doral, Fla., and Kendall, Fla., together totaling about $20 million.
HCA East Florida is comprised of 14 affiliated hospitals and multiple ambulatory surgery centers and imaging centers, physician practices, four freestanding emergency departments, a supply chain center and an integrated regional laboratory. It is the largest health system from Florida's Treasure Coast to Miami-Dade County.
