Daytona Beach, Fla.-based Halifax Health is planning to build a $105 million, 95-bed hospital after the health system's board of commissioners agreed to fund the construction, despite an ongoing court battle over the site, according to the Daytona Beach News Journal.
The site of Halifax's new medical campus, which will include a freestanding ED, hospital and medical offices, is located outside of the taxing district Halifax Health was established to serve. The ongoing lawsuit, filed by former Ponce Inlet Mayor Nancy Epps, questions if the Halifax Health has the authority to operate these facilities though they are outside of the taxing district.
During the board meeting Monday, Halifax Health's CEO Jeff Feasel recommended approval but also noted the cost increase and the ongoing lawsuit.
"We feel confident we're going to win," Mr. Feasel told commissioners.
If all goes according to plan the hospital, which will be the centerpiece of Halifax's new medical campus in Deltona, Fla., is scheduled to open in early 2019.
