Donation from former patient allows Danbury Hospital to transform cardiac operating room

Danbury (Conn.) Hospital will transform its existing cardiac operating room into a multifunctional cardiovascular surgical suite after a donation from former patient Yoriko McClure.

The new operating suite will be equipped with traditional operating room functions along with the imaging capabilities of a catheterization lab. Surgeons will use the surgical suite to perform minimally invasive cardiac and endovascular procedures.

Ms. McClure decided to give back to the hospital after she underwent coronary bypass surgery at Danbury Hospital, which is part of Danbury-based Western Connecticut Health Network.

"We are extremely grateful to Mrs. McClure for her exceptional generosity," said John M. Murphy, MD, Western Connecticut Health Network's president and CEO. "Her gift will have a tremendous impact on our ability to provide western Connecticut and neighboring New York with the most advanced cardiovascular care for generations to come."
