CoxHealth breaks ground on Missouri replacement hospital

CoxHealth, a six-hospital nonprofit health system based in Springfield, Mo., broke ground on a new facility to replace a 66-year-old hospital May 1.

The $42 million new facility, Cox Monett (Mo.) Hospital, will be a full-service hospital with an emergency department, multiple operating rooms, and labor and delivery services. Attached to the hospital will be a physician office with clinics and 40 exam rooms.

Cox Monett is one of the system's two critical-access hospitals.

"In this era when many rural hospitals are closing, we're thrilled that we're moving forward to provide an even greater level of care for individuals and families in the Monett area," Darren Bass, president of Cox Monett, said during the groundbreaking ceremony.

Construction on the 75,000-square-foot hospital is scheduled to take about two years.
