Pittsfield, Mass.-based Berkshire Health Systems plans to relaunch its North Adams campus, which will involve applying for critical access hospital designation.
The campus would be renamed North Adams Regional Hospital and would house up to 25 inpatient beds as well as operating rooms, imaging, lab and pharmacy services and an emergency department, the system said.
"Once approved, the updated North Adams Regional Hospital will offer state-of-the-art medical and surgical services on a scale that meets the needs of Northern Berkshire residents today and into the future," Darlene Rodowicz, BHS CEO and president, said in a statement.
With the CAH designation, there would then be three separately licensed hospitals in the BHS system, including the CAH-designated Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, Mass.
BHS supports over 4,000 jobs locally.
