Augusta (Ga.) University Medical Center unveiled plans to build a 100-bed hospital as part of a $150 million investment in one of Georgia's biggest counties still lacking a hospital, according to an Atlanta Business Journal report.
Here are four things to know about the project.
1. The two-story, 260,000-square-foot hospital will be built in Grovetown, Ga.
2. The facility will house 76 medical-surgical beds, 24 intensive care rooms, six operating rooms and an 18-bed emergency department, according to the report. A Level III trauma center will also be located in the hospital.
3. The Georgia Department of Community Health issued regulatory approval for AU to build the hospital in 2014. However, two Augusta hospitals — University Health Care System and Doctors Hospital — appealed the decision, delaying construction, according to the report.
4. Construction will begin in summer 2018. Officials expect the hospital to be completed in 2020.
