Chatom, Ala.-based Washington County Hospital & Nursing Home has opened its new $4.5 million emergency room, CBS affiliate WKRG reported Oct. 3.
The new facility is 7,000 square feet, compared to the former facility that was 1,200 feet. It is expected to help with patient flow and accommodate the hospital's current level of emergency patients. The hospital's ER is the only one in the county.
Construction began in 2016. The hospital will also build a helipad on site, made possible in part from a USDA grant, to facilitate transferring patients, according to the news outlet.
