Five hospitals and health systems this year have announced or unveiled facility expansions and renovations with price tags of $1 billion or more.
1. City of Hope invests $1B in new cancer hospital
Duarte, Calif.-based City of Hope will invest $1 billion in a new hospital and research center conducting clinical trials of new drugs and devices in Irvine, Calif.

Atlanta-based Emory University filed a rezoning application with the city of Brookhaven, Ga., describing its plans for a $1 billion "health innovation district."

Northwell Health's Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City is preparing a $2 billion revitalization that will include upgraded clinical areas and residential apartments.
4. Penn Medicine alters design of $1.5B pavilion
The design team responsible for Philadelphia-based Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's $1.5 billion pavilion has changed its plans for the layout and shape of the building. The building is expected to be completed in 2021.
