4 things to know about UCF's proposed teaching hospital

The University of Central Florida in Orlando has proposed a new teaching hospital near the UCF medical school in Lake Nona, according to an Orlando Sentinel column.

Here are four things to know about the proposed project.

1. UCF board chairman Marcos R. Marchena, who wrote the column, saidthe project will not involve a cash investment from UCF, and UCF will not seek state funding for the project.

2. Under an agreement with Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America, UCF will provide land it already owns, and HCA will contribute the cash needed to build the hospital and contribute the initial operating capital, Mr. Marchena said in his column, adding that the university will have a 20 percent equity stake in the hospital.

3. The proposal calls for UCF and HCA to share hospital governance.

4. The proposed project has already received preliminary approval from Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration, and the next step is for the Florida Board of Governors to approve the public-private partnership proposal, according to Mr. Marchena.
