4 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

1. HealthSouth breaks ground on inpatient rehab hospital in Alabama: 4 things to know
Construction began May 8 on Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth's 34-bed freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Pelham, Ala., according to the Shelby County Reporter.

2. CHI Franciscan Health to build new $484M hospital at Harrison Medical Center-Silverdale
The Washington State Department of Health has approved Tacoma, Wash.-based CHI Franciscan Health's certificate of need requesting permission to build a new hospital at Harrison Medical Center-Silverdale (Wash.).

3. McLaren Northern Michigan plans 92-bed expansion
McLaren Northern Michigan, a regional referral center, will undergo an expansion of its main campus in Petoskey, Mich., reports UPNorthLive.com.

4. Penn Medicine plans $1.5B patient tower
Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania Health System disclosed plans to build a 17-story, $1.5 billion patient tower.
