3 hospitals, health systems get $40M+ gifts

Hospitals and health systems have long been recipients of philanthropists' gifts. Here are three donations over $40 million Becker's has reported since Nov. 17:

1. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute received a $69 million gift from the Pan-Mass Challenge. The mostly unrestricted funds will be used for cancer research, clinical trials and treatment innovations, according to the Pan-Mass Challenge release.

2. Leonard Lauder, chairman emeritus of Estée Lauder, said he will donate $52 million to the nursing school at Hunter College — a record donation for the public New York City school. Jennifer Raab, president of Hunter College, said it marks the largest gift ever made to the constituent colleges that make up City University of New York. The money will be used on upgrades and expansions at Hunter's 1,200-student nursing school.

3. MetroHealth Medical Center, a county-owned safety-net hospital in Cleveland, received a $40 million gift from Bob and Joann Glick. The donation is the largest in the hospital's history. The 380-bed, $759 million MetroHealth Glick Center, which opened Nov. 5, was named after the couple.
