12 hospitals planning facility expansions, upgrades

The following hospitals announced plans to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities in the last week.

1. Health Central prepares to open $43M patient tower
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place this weekend for a new five-story, $43.3 million tower at Ocoee, Fla.-based Health Central, according to the Orlando Business Journal.

2. Memorial Hermann Health System to invest $20M in Southwest Hospital
Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System will invest at least $20 million in facility upgrades and staffing for its Southwest Hospital as it converts it into a Level II trauma center, according to the Houston Business Journal.

3. New Hampshire Hospital opens mental crisis unit
State-run New Hampshire Hospital in Concord opened a 10-bed mental health crisis unit Tuesday after a nursing shortage hindered the opening for a year, WMUR9 reported.

4. Cook County Health and Hospitals plans 9-story outpatient center
Chicago-based Cook County Health and Hospitals System applied with state regulators to build a new outpatient center. The new facility, equipped with a sleek exterior, is designed to attract a broader population of patients, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

5. Owensboro Health breaks ground on 3 new outpatient facilities
Owensboro (Ky.) Health broke ground June 28 in three locations on the system's new One Healthplex outpatient facilities.

6. UAB to open clinic at Baptist Medical Center South
Birmingham, Ala.-based Baptist Health partnered with the University of Alabamaat Birmingham Health System to open a clinic at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery.

7. Kettering Health Network unveils $10M expansion campaign
Dayton, Ohio-based Kettering Health Network is kicking off a $10 million capital campaign to support the construction of a new hospital with a $1.5 million gift from a local businessman, according to the Dayton Business Journal.

8. State Judge approves The Valley Hospital's plan to double in size
The village council of Ridgewood, N.J., has 90 days to approve an ordinance that would allow The Valley Hospital to expand from 565,000 square feet to 961,000 square feet, according to Patch.

9. BJC's Barnes-Jewish St. Peter’s to add $12.2M rehab hospital
St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare is teaming up with HealthSouth Corp., a Birmingham, Ala.-based rehabilitation services provider, to build a 35-bed rehab hospital on the third floor of BJC's Barnes-Jewish St. Peters (Mo.) Hospital.

10. Aspirus Riverview Hospital invests $25M in cardio institute, other enhancements
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.-based Aspirus Riverview Hospital & Clinics will invest $25 million to enhance and expand its facility, according to WSAU.

11. Michigan State, McLaren may build hospital together
Michigan State University in Lansing hinted at the possibility of building a hospital with McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital, though the organizations have yet to disclose details, WILX 10 reported.

12. Journey Mental Health Center in Wisconsin to move, expand
Safety-net mental health and substance abuse provider JourneyMentalHealthCenter in Madison, Wis., plans to move and expand, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
