To celebrate its 150th birthday, St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J., has broken ground on a huge renovation plan to "expand and modernize" its campus, according to a NJ.com report.
Here are three things to know about the renovation plan, as outlined in the report.
1. The transformative project includes building a 241,000-square-foot, five-story family pavilion with three new nursing units, a neonatal intensive care unit five times the size of its current one, four new operating suites, and a new parking garage and lobby.
2. The Cooperman Family Pavilion — named for Leon and Toby Cooperman, whose foundation donated $25 million to the project — is slated to cost $250 million and is set to open in 2017.
3. Hospital officials say all design decisions for the expansion plan were made with the aim of improving patient comfort and promoting the healing process in mind.
