Riverton (Wyo.) Memorial Hospital announced the adoption of a new process to improve patient flow in its emergency department.
Coinciding with current construction of the ED, the hospital implemented a process to treat non-critical patients more quickly.
In the new process, the nurse and physician complete their assessment of a non-critical patient while he or she is in an exam room chair. The patient then returns to a chair outside the room and may undergo diagnostic examinations in other areas of the hospital, such as the radiology department. When results are ready, the patient returns to the exam room and the treatment is completed, according to the release.
