America's Essential Hospitals announced the launch of a three-year project to help safety-net providers prepare for expanded health coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente gave a $1.8 million grant to America's Essential Hospitals, the National Association of Community Health Centers and The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services to support safety-net providers in building the capacity to offer coordinated care to the newly insured.
These organizations will identify five states or regions with the greatest need for help in creating a "stakeholder support network," according to the release. The project will provide tools, reports and technical assistance to help safety net providers build capacity. The project also aims to identify safety net collaborations that successfully transition the newly insured to medical homes.
