Now that St. Louis-based Ascension has expanded its Michigan footprint with Rochester, Mich.-based Crittenton Hospital Medical Center, it is planning multiple capital and clinical service improvement projects at the hospital, according to a Crain's Detroit Business report.
Here are three things to know about the hospital's improvement plan.
1. Officials said Crittenton plans include:
- Renovating its emergency department to improve aesthetics and patient flow
- Increasing the size of two of its 11 operating rooms and upgrade the hospital's EMR system
- Establishing a center for breast health
- Improving its heart program. According to Terry Hamilton, Crittenton's acting president, equipment upgrades will include cardiology imaging and interventional radiology. The report notes Crittenton will also receive a new community system to store multiple types of medical imaging, as well as a new cardiac catheterization lab, in 2017.
2. Hospital officials did not disclose a total capital spending amount. However, experts estimate spending will likely total more than $25 million, according to the report.
3. Officials expect the infusion of upgrades to immediately make the hospital more competitive and profitable.
