Community Hospital Corporation's long term acute care hospital (LTACH) opened in Odessa, Texas, according to an Odessa American article.
The $3 million, 25-bed hospital is housed on the fourth floor of Medical Center Hospital, focusing on conditions that are severe but require long-term stays, according the article.
The average lenght of stay at LTACH is 25-days, but patients may stay longer if their treatment requires it.
Chief Operating Officer for MCH Tony Ruiz noted that the LTACH was a long time coming.
"This fills a void in healthcare that we have been missing," said Ruiz. "The LTACH allows us to avoid decongested ICUs and ERs."
